In June 2003, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) charged a task force of educators with identifying patterns and trends in G/T student identification, especially in terms of the representation of students from ethnically, academically, or economically diverse groups who currently are underrepresented in G/T programs.
The Task Force’s resulting publication, Equity in Gifted Education: A State Initiative, was designed to assist school district personnel in beginning to address the issue of equity in the identification process for their G/T students. This document encourages districts to consider alternative as well as traditional means of identifying potentially underserved G/T students.
